We knew it wouldn't be long before the recruitment of 2011 J.L. Mann S/LB Pat Martin would pick up steam. After a strong showing at a couple of high profile camps this past offseason Martin appears to be a high priority for a number of schools in the 2011 class. He recently took a visit to Atlanta GA to check out the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and he sat down and talked at length about his trip and thoughts concerning Paul Johnson's team.
Last Saturday Martin made the trip down I-85 to check out the Yellow Jackets as they took on North Carolina. While the Yellow Jackets were hosting Martin it appears that their opponents on the afternoon are in hot pursuit of the 2011 prospect as well he informed us. "Yeah I went down to Georgia Tech. They toured me through the locker room, the players' lounge, and the weight room. Some of the players took me around and I really like their environment and just being in the locker room with the players after the game. It's crazy down there man!"
You couldn't help but to realize Martin's exuberance over the memories he took back from his trip to Atlanta. Martin informed us that the Yellow Jackets are recruiting him as a safety. He also said that the staff wanted to see more junior season video highlights to continue their evaluation.
"They said they are heavy on film and that would be a key part in the offering process. The way I feel right now though, if tomorrow was Signing Day I would sign with them. So yes, Georgia Tech is my favorite school right now."
As mentioned previously the Tar Heels of North Carolina are still heavily in the mix for Martin. He talked about his relationship with his primary recruiter and thoughts concerning North Carolina.
"I think I may be going to Chapel Hill next weekend. Coach Blake and I have been trying to get something lined up. Right now I'd say North Carolina is recruiting me just as hard as Georgia Tech is, more than anybody else.
Other schools have remained in contact with Martin and he shared some of those programs with us.
"LSU and Georgia are sending me a lot of mail right now compared to others. At this point my top five are Georgia Tech, LSU, North Carolina, Georgia, and NC State."
Although his team has struggled on the season thus far Martin relayed his stats to us.
"So far I have 26 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 3 pass deflections."
Keep in mind that the first few games of the season the Patriots coaching staff lined him up as a linebacker but he has recently moved back to his most comfortable position of safety in recent weeks.
Martin says although he has a group of favorites that he's still wide open to any other schools that would like to recruit him. He also shared a message for all of the college coaches out there as to what his goals and aspirations are currently and for the near future.
"I just want everyone to know that I'm working very hard for that first scholarship offer and at being considered among the nation's best safeties after this season when the rankings come out."
Martin and the Patriots will hit the road tonight to take on Travelers Rest High School which features 2010 RB E.J. Hunt. Stay tuned for more updates with Pat Martin as his recruitment continues to heat up.
