Expectations are high for Maurice Flowers' Chester Cyclones this season. After making it to the AAA state title game over the last few seasons many feel it's prime time for the Cyclones to walk away with the championship trophy this year. Friday night saw them embark on step one in a first round playoff game against Greer High.
The battle that ensued wasn't one many Cyclone fans anticipated but due to the heroics of 2011 RB Julius Pendergrass and a last second defensive stop helped Chester escape with a 27-21 win and move their record to 10-1.
Pendergrass had his way against a tough Yellow Jacket defense carrying 12 times for 176 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also caught 2 passes for 16 yards.
While the Cyclones are happy to take the win despite how pretty it was or wasn't the road doesn't get any easier next week as they face an undefeated Daniel High squad that features CB/WR DeAndre Hopkins who is committed to Clemson along with 2011 teammate DT DeShaun Williams.
We expect it to be the top matchup next week on the AAA level and we'll have the details for you so stay tuned. Click the video player below to see Pendergrass in action versus AAAA power Northwestern earlier this season.
