Top Seniors - - Chris McDowell - - Eastside Eagles

Playing for Coach Carlisle and lettering for three years has one of the Palmetto State's top linemen anxious for the 2003 season to begin.

Playing for one of the true legends (Eastside Head Coach John Carlisle) in South Carolina High school football has allowed DT and TE Chris McDowell the opportunity to improve his game over the past 3 years. After lettering his freshman year and every year since, Chris has pushed his game to the next level and now finds himself the target of many of the top colleges in the South.

Chris has been a leader on the defensive line the past 3 years and is eager for the 2003 season to begin. "We have most of our team back next season and many of the guys are 4 year starters at their position", Chris stated. "We have worked hard during the off season and we are ready for this year to be our year. We want a region title, wins in the playoffs and a chance to play at Williams Brice. That would be the ultimate dream."

McDowell has been part of the Eastside Eagle basketball team this season averaging 8 points a game for the team but just like on the football field, he likes to play defense. "I never worry about my points, but I want to play good tough defense and help the team that way, someone else can take care of the points." Chris' contributions have the Eagles sitting at 16-5 with a huge region match up against Wade Hampton this weekend.

As soon as basketball season ends, Chris looks to hit the weight room hard. "Playing basketball has kept the weight off a little but once the season ends I want to put some time in the weight room and work on conditioning." Chris stands at 6'3" and tips the scales at 265 to 270. "Ideally, I would like to be around 270 for the season. That will allow me to keep my speed and put pressure on the QB "stated McDowell.

The All Region and All Area performer is already hearing from many of the top programs in the southeast. He is visiting Virginia this weekend and has made numerous visits to South Carolina over the past year. "I am hearing from Virginia, USC, NC State and Vanderbilt the most. Coach Fitch has been writing me for the Gamecocks. Chris mentioned. "South Carolina is my favorite and I grew up a Carolina fan my entire life. My brother will be at USC this fall and I love the school and coaching staff" said McDowell. "With all the great players they recruited this year from all over South Carolina; it would great to play there next season."

Chris also spoke about playing Basketball against USC signee Demetrius Summers last season and also mentioned the exciting game the Eagles played against Greenville and USC Signee Noah Whiteside during 2002.

Chris is a true student athlete with a 3.90 GPA in college prep classes and carries a 1000+ SAT score making him a full qualifier. He will captain the 2003 Eastside Eagles along with LB Jason Lavintis, QB Chris Stone and LB Glenn Williams, all are 4 year starters for Coach Carlisle and the Eastside Eagles.

"The Greenville Raider game will be one of the highlights on our schedule this year." Chris concluded. "They are the defending region champ and we need to beat them to make it to our goal of a region championship. It will be tough but I am confident our coaches will help motivate us to find a way. I can wait for the season to start"

Either can we Chris.

The 2003 season promises to be a great one for the Eastside Eagles and Coach Carlisle has team thinking of big games, region championships and deep trips into the playoffs.

SC Pigskin Prep wishes the Chris and the Eagles the best of luck in 2003.
