Brandon Eakins Profile

As summer is just getting underway things have been on an upswing for 2011 WR Brandon Eakins of Wando High School. Various colleges came through Wando this spring and took note of their prospects including Eakins. We caught up with Eakins for an update on the very latest regarding his recruitment.

"Right now I'm hearing from Maryland, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, The Citadel, Elon, Furman, Charleston Southern, and Coastal Carolina," Eakins told SCPrepNation.com.

From that group he says The Citadel has been the most active with their recruiting efforts. Having just graduated WR Andre Roberts as a high pick in the NFL draft bodes well for the Bulldogs in their chances of landing Eakins and other wideout prospects.

Currently Eakins holds no scholarship offers but that could change in the near future he says. "I feel like The Citadel, Maryland, and Elon may be closest to offering me a scholarship."

Last season he posted 32 catches for 412 yards and 2 touchdowns for his squad. Heading into his senior season expect Eakins to turn it up a few more notches.

"I really want to get better at catching the jump ball and making catches in traffic this offseason."

Asked what traits he feels are his biggest strengths currently he replied, "I'd say my speed, I'm a big 3rd down playmaker, my size, and route running are my strengths."

Looking back at his junior season Eakins says one game in particular stands out as his biggest. "I'd say the game against Conway. I had 6 catches for 131 yards and a touchdown. I had over 100 yards in the 1st half and it was after a time when everyone had no hope that the offense would be successful since we didn't do well against Rock Hill."

Speaking of Rock Hill Eakins says the Bearcats were the toughest team his squad faced last season. "They were the fastest and most physical corners I have played against."

In terms of individual opponents Eakins said former Goose Creek LB Malcolm Howard was a big thorn for Eakins and the Warriors due to his speed.

Eakins already has taken into account what he'll be weighing heavily as he continues to look at prospective schools and he shared those factors will be and his time frame on making a decision for college.

"Education and any type of early playing time even if on special teams I'd say will be big for me. I'd wait until the season is over to make sure I made the right decision."

"I have already been to or will be visiting South Carolina, The Citadel, Virginia, Maryland, Furman, Elon, Coastal Carolina, and Wake Forest this summer."
