LB Smith Gets 1st Offer, Continues Camp Tour

2011 MLB Carson Smith continues to rack up mileage as he's currently on a whirlwind camp tour in order to be evaluated by more college coaches. As one of the state's most underrated prospects Smith gave a call with news of his first scholarship offer and other schools who are high on the stud MLB from Mauldin High School.

Every year we log more miles and watch countless hours of film looking at South Carolina's top high school prospects. In each of those recruiting cycles we find some gems that "fly under the radar" and in the class of 2011 we found a gem in LB Carson Smith from nearby Mauldin High.

The big time MLB prospect has probably logged more miles than any other prospect in the state this offseason attending camps, combines, and visiting schools. The hard work continues for Smith as he gave us an update of the very latest including news of his first scholarship offer.

"I just wanted to let you know that Presbyterian College offered me a couple days ago. Toledo has told me they have plans of doing so too, but I will know for sure once I get that in the mail."

As we mentioned previously Smith has been racking up miles left and right in order to be seen by college coaches all over the country and he gave us some of the feedback he's received from those schools and coaches thus far.

"I have been traveling the camp circuit, and so far every linebacker coach has said I was the best out there. I've been to Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Duke, NC State, and ECU for camp. However, they have all yet to pull the trigger on the offer. ECU told me they didn't need anymore Mikes, while Vanderbilt wanted to wait for the camp circuit to end first."

Since the interview Smith camped with in-state Clemson last Wednesday and plans to travel to camp with Boston College on Thursday.

Stay tuned to for more updates concerning Carson Smith as we plan to speak with him upon his return from camping with Boston College. Keep it locked right here for more of the inside scoop regarding South Carolina's top high school prospects!
