Last season 2011 Hilton Head Prepatory School QB Matthew Layman emerged as a player to keep a close eye on. This offseason, after posting some strong numbers during his junior season, Layman has been diligently trying to travel in order to get his name out there and earn his first offer. With the top three rated quarterbacks already verbally committed to various programs Layman remains one of the top rising senior signal callers in the state available. He sat down with SCPrepNation.com for a quick update on the very latest. "I've been to a number of one day camps this summer and receiving a lot of interest, but no official offers so far," Layman said.
"I was named top QB at Coastal Carolina camp and did very well at Duke, Furman, Liberty and Wake Forest. I also attended Nike Camp and the Elite 11 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I scored well down in Alabama. I was also in Nashville for FBU a few weekends ago."
Last year Layman was 158-243 for 1836 yards with 18 touchdowns. He also completed 65% of his passes averaging 262 yards per game. Layman missed 4 games and ¾ of another with fractured fibula. On the ground he had 56 carries for 113 yards and 5 touchdowns.
As of late Layman says South Carolina, Duke, Furman, Coastal Carolina, Dartmouth, Cornell, and Liberty have been showing him the most interest in terms of recruiting.
