Former Marlboro County Bulldog Football and Wrestling athlete, Spence McNeil was pronounced dead Friday after suffering fatal wounds to the head, legs, arm, and vertebrae while serving his country in the Persian Gulf country of Kuwait.

Family of McNeil's was informed this past Monday that Spence was involved in a accident along with two other soldiers when returning back to their station from a training exercise in the capital city of Kuwait City.

His family was flown to
Saudi Arabia Thursday afternoon to be at the side of Spence during his recovery. Unfortunately, upon the family's arrival, Spence was later taken off life support after doctors determined that there was no chance of recovery.

McNeil was a 2002 Graduate of Marlboro County High School and was a member of the Bulldog state championship football team. He also participated in Bulldog wrestling during his senior year.

McNeil went through basic training at
Fort Jackson in Columbia S.C., and then passed advanced training in Fort Hood, TX. McNeil reported for duty in Kuwait the first week in February.

No funeral arrangements for Spence have been announced at present time.
