There are players who fly under the radar every year and one player who we expect to make a big splash this coming season is 2011 TE/H-back Alex Glover of Wando High School. Glover has been on the road for most of the summer to workout at various camps, combines, and on the 7 on 7 circuit. We caught up with Glover to get an update on the very latest.
At 6'3 225 pounds Glover is an interesting prospect. His desire to compete and showcase his skills was evident this offseason as he's been on the road traveling a great deal. Glover has attended one day camps at Kentucky, Wake Forest, NC State, Duke, South Carolina, Elon, Furman, The Citadel, and Coastal Carolina. He's also hit up the Nike/ESPN, VTO, UnderArmour, NUC and Shrine Bowl combines.
When Glover isn't on the road traveling he's been in the weight room working out to improve and he's kicked things up a notch there too. Glover says he's upped his bench press to 285 pounds, squat to 355 pounds, and power clean to 305 pounds.
In terms of testing Glover posted a personal best of 4.66 seconds in the 40 yard dash while at camp at Coastal Carolina. He also posted a 9'3 broad jump while camping with the Chanticleers. Another test where Glover showed solid improvement was in the shuttle where he ran it in 4.45 seconds at both NC State and Coastal Carolina. He also posted a 32" vertical at the Kentucky camp.
While Glover has yet to earn his first scholarship offer a number of regional programs are showing a great deal of interest. Moving towards his senior season Glover and his teammates have some great scrimmage competition coming up in the very near future.
Wando High scrimmages on August 6th at Sumter, August 10th at home against Woodland High against Myrtle Beach, and August 17th at Cane Bay. Sertoma is August 20th against Woodland.
