In a somewhat surprising move, Fred Hamilton has accepted the head job at West Ashley and was announced as the schools second head coach this week.
comes to West Ashley following the revitalization of the Battery Creek program. The Dolphins made it to the second round of the playoffs this past season and were poised for a strong season with 2 of the Top 20 players in the state.
West Ashley will enter their 4th season of play but have only managed a 8-28 record since the school opened in 2000. Hamilton coached four years at Battery Creek and amassed a 20-28 record.
According to sources, Hamilton accepted the job earlier this week but over the past few days had second thoughts about leaving BC. After discussing it with his family, he decided the move to the Charleston area school.
Hamilton has experience on the high school and college level and worked for a number of years at Charleston Southern. West Ashley is a member of the Big 16 with the state 7th largest enrollment but has yet to field a competitive football team in their young history.
