Class of '06: Top 50 Baseball Prospects

With spring just around the corner and baseball season on its way, SchoolSports.com ranks the nation's Top 50 high school baseball prospects in the Class of 2006, complete with college commitments.

As arguably the best high school baseball player since Ken Griffey Jr., MLB's eventual No. 1 overall draft pick Justin Upton made selecting the nation's No. 1 baseball prospect from the Class of 2005 a cinch a year ago. This year, however, that's not the case. A handful of players from the Class of 2006 are worthy of consideration for the No. 1 spot, including Mosley (Fla.) slugger Cody Johnson and The Woodlands (Texas) flamethrower Kyle Drabek.

But in the end, Mansfield (Texas) right-handed pitcher Jordan Walden enters the season as our top prospect. With a fastball that tops out at 99 mph, a sick curveball and a workhorse mentality, Walden has the potential to one day become the ace of an MLB pitching staff. Throw in the fact that he's also a beast at the plate and has an ideal frame for a pitcher (6-4, 185), and you have as close to a sure thing as you'll find in baseball.

With baseball season set to kick off across the country, SchoolSports.com ranks the nation's Top 50 high school prospects from the Class of 2006, complete with college commitments.
