Police officials were not releasing the names pending notification, but school officials confirmed Mary Helen McMeen, 16, was killed in the crash, and Grace Pinkston, 16, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
According to Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Tom Wilson, the girls were traveling on South Crossbridges Road about 4 p.m. when they attempted to cross onto Highway 43 and their car was struck by a truck on the driver's side. Both girls were wearing seatbelts, Wilson said.
