Perry Co. player is an inspiration to many

How can two points lift an entire community? Ask anyone who knows Kari May. May is a popular freshman at Perry County. She recently turned 15. She has cancer.

So does her father, Joe, who is undergoing chemotherapy. Her mother, Phyllis, died of a rare form of a brain aneurysm two years ago.

On Monday of this week, May took the court for her first high school varsity basketball game. She wore No. 22 for the Lady Vikings. The gymnasium was packed.

"It felt awesome," May said. "I hadn't been able to play in a year. It's always been my dream to play in high school and college. My dad was there. My older brother Britt was there. I had more family and friends there, too."
