Patience pays off for new Vandy walk-on

Roger Herndon had to wait a year to fulfill a dream, but his patience has been rewarded. The former Greenbrier High football standout, who earned Class 3A Mr. Football Back of the Year honors in 2004, has been accepted at Vanderbilt and will join the football squad as a walk-on this fall after being denied admission by the school a year ago.

Herndon enrolled at Austin Peay last summer but did not play football. He does not expect to be eligible to play at Vanderbilt this fall in order to satisfy NCAA rules for transfers, but he can practice with the team and has been working out at VU's McGugin Center this summer.
