Govs skin ‘Cats, look ahead to McMinn Co.

The William Blount Governors pulled off what just one short year ago would have been the impossible, Friday night against the Oak Ridge Wildcats.

The Governors didn't exactly start strong, but had an incredible scoring flurry in the final minutes of the game. They would score all of their 21 points in the last 5 minutes on their way to a 21-13 defeat of the now reeling Wildcats.

Darren Walker again carried the day for the Govs with 100 yards rushing on 22 carries and all three of the Governors touchdowns.

Looking Ahead

William Blount won't have long to celebrate this landmark victory for the program, as the 4-3 (2-2) McMinn County Cherokees will be invading the office of the Governors this week.

The Cherokees are riding high on a 3 game winning streak, after dropping weeks 2, 3 and 4 to Ooltewah, Cleveland and Farragut. McMinn played tough in their 3 losses, but shot themselves in the foot with mental errors and turnovers.

The Cherokees latest wins have come against region rivals Oak Ridge and Soddy Daisy. McMinn's 1 point win over Oak Ridge might be telling, as they allowed 30 points on defense, where William Blount only allowed 13 points vs. the same team.

The Cherokees love to pound the rock and will do so with RB Trace McDermont. McDermont has 950 yards and 12 TD's on the year. He'll remind Gov fans of their own Darren Walker.

Cherokee signal caller Devon Johnson likes to sling the ball and comes into the contest with 625 yards passing. He has had accuracy problems though, with only 6 TD's vs. 5 interceptions.
