Hollifield signs with Alabama By Bill Mynatt
Powell's Caitlin Hollifield signed an NCAA letter of intent on Wednesday to attend the University of Alabama, where she will join the Crimson Tide women's basketball program next fall. She had made a verbal commitment to attend Alabama last January, but Wednesday was the first opportunity allowed by the NCAA in the early signing period for high school senior basketball players.
Hollifield has been a part of a winning tradition at Powell. In her first three years of high school, the 6 foot post player has led her team to a combined record of 84 - 25, and appearances in the state semifinals in her first two years of high school, and the quarterfinals last year in Tennessee's largest classification. She has averaged 12.04 points and 7.4 rebounds per game over her career, including 15.3 PPG and 10.3 RPG last year as a junior.
Hollifield has been named Street and Smith All American, first team All State, and has been named to numerous All District, All Region, and individual All Tourney teams during her career.
"It is really a relief to know that all of my hard work has finally paid off", Hollifield told me. "This is a day I've been waiting for for a long, long time. I am really excited to have this opportunity."
Hollifield chose Alabama over Vandy, LSU and UT-Chattanooga.
