Mr. Football Wekly Picks

Congrats to the Knox Webb Spartans and Davidson Academy Bears for their championship performances in Murfreesboro over the weekend. Webb was a darkhorse from just after mid season, losing two region games to JPII and Harding Academy, then losing to arch rival Knox Catholic.

They got QB Blake Beeler back from injury late in the season though and from then on they looked like world beaters. Congrats to both teams!

Mr. Football did pretty well with the primetime picks, going 3-1 and then 4-2 in the extra games.

Primetime Picks

Hampton @ Friendship Christian

The Bulldogs had to beat some really tough teams to get to where they are this week. They took out undefeated Cosby, and then had to beat arguably the toughest team in the East in the Coalfield Yellow Jackets.

Everyone but the Friendship Christian Commanders thought Temple would be Bulldogs next test. The Commanders knew better as they thrashed Temple 54-7. FC has to be the odds on favorite now.

My Pick: Friendship Christian

Goodpasture @ Milan

By this time near everyone knows Milan's story. They were forced to forfeit 4 games early in the season and have now made a pretty improbable run to Round 4 and a match up with uber-tough Goodpasture.

Can the Bulldogs catch Goodpasture looking past them for the rematch with the Alcoa Tornadoes? I doubt Goodpasture would, but it would be bad news to overlook the feisty Bulldogs.

My Pick: Goodpasture

Knox Fulton @ Pearl Cohn

Knox Fulton did what seemed impossible to some just two short weeks ago….they sent the Knox Catholic Fightin Irish home early.

The Pearl Cohn Firebirds are in playoff mode and look unstoppable after whipping everyone in their path since Week 8. A 34-18 whipping of Sycamore last wek puts an exclamation point on where they're at right now.

Fulton is hungry for another gold ball after taking a couple years off from winning championships.

My Pick: Fulton

Hillsboro @ Henry County

The Burros have quietly put together an undefeated season without long time Burro skipper Ron Adeylott, who moved on to Riverdale. The Burro defense has been stifling, holding eight opponents to 7 points or less.

Henry County did the incredible and sent perennial powerhouse and back to back West Bracket champ Memphis Melrose to the house. For that reason alone, the Patriots cannot be overlooked.

My Pick: Hillsboro

Ravenwood @ White Station

The Ravenwood Raptors are building a middle TN tradition. They made it to the 5A championship last season on the never quit attitude of their seniors and great coaching from a young coaching staff. Many counted the champs out when they lost their first two games, then to region rival Brentwood as well, in Week 4.

White Station let everyone know they were for real with a defeat of long time nemesis Germantown in Week 6. They've gone 4-0 since losing at Houston in Week 8. Defense is the key for the Spartans, with D1 talent at linebacker.

My Pick: Ravenwood

Other games of equal interest:

Morristown West @ Maryville: The Rebels dismantle the best Region 4 team last week. Their on a roll and have the experience on both sides of the ball to take down any team. The Trojans are hungry and big all over the field. It's hard to win championships out of the wing t though. Maryville wins.
