Coach Charlie Weis and his staff have been gaining a lot of ground in the South since he has been at Notre Dame. One of the southern states the staff has done well in the last few years is Tennessee. With commitments from Golden Tate, class of 2007, and Harrison Smith, class of 2007, the Irish are starting to build a pipeline into the state.
Alex Bullard, the most recent commitment to Notre Dame from Brentwood (Tenn.) said of his choice, "I think it was my last visit up there I got a chance to meet the president of the university, the athletic director, and meet with Coach Weis a little bit and I got a better feel for the place. When I was up there I realized Notre Dame was the best fit for me and would help me be the most successful in my career."
He explained of what he plans to study at Notre Dame, "Well they start of with a core curriculum for all their freshmen. As of right now I'm planning on majoring in computer engineering and mathematics."
When asked if he was influenced by any current Irish commitments he said, "I talk to Tyler Stockton a lot and he just encouraged me that Notre Dame is a great place. At the end of the day the decision was mine." He added of his visits and time with current players, "I hung out with some of them. David Grimes showed me around."
He commented, "The distance was never a factor. Whatever was the best school for me and it just happened to be Notre Dame."
He said of Notre Dame's offensive line coach's plans for him, "As of right now he just talks about my athleticism and it's just basically just a wait and see when I get up there type of thing. Right now they see me as more of an interior player, but dependent on how much I grow I can play all four positions if not five."
Bullard said of his future teammates, "I'm anxious to get to know all of them, I talk to Tyler Stockton, I met Cierre Wood and I'm anxious to meet all of those guys." He added of Tyler Stockton, "He was one of the first to know. I talked to him right after I talked to Coach Weis. He was happy to have me on board."
He went on to say of Weis' reaction, "He was excited. He congratulated me and is happy to have me on board."
Bullard is not the only Tennessee prospect receiving interest from Notre Dame. The Irish have another prospect from Tennessee with an offer in Marlon Brown from Memphis – Harding Academy (Tenn.).
