Alex Bullard Talks About His Visit

Find out what one of the top offensive line prospects in Tennessee thought about his trip to South Bend and the Irish victory over Michigan. Learn more about Alex Bullard and his expectations for his team the rest of this season.

Alex Bullard, 6-4, 275 pound offensive guard from Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy said of his trip to South Bend, "I really liked it. I did not know it could get that loud in the stadium. I've never been to a Notre Dame game and I didn't know their stadium and fan base could get like that." He added of his experience, "It was everything that I expected and more. It was a really exciting game and they played real hard. I really enjoyed myself."

Many Irish fans are excited about the 2-0 start and big win over Michigan, but one topic discussed by Irish fans is the chemistry that is being built amongst the players. Bullard explained, "The chemistry I saw was with Jimmy Clausen and all the receivers trust one another. The offensive line with some experience played well and I think the chemistry is really good."

The Irish brought in several commitments and prospects from the class of 2009 to watch the game. Bullard enjoyed the experience of getting to know his teammates a little more and learning more about each one. He said, "I talked to a defensive end that sat beside me that is from Ohio. He talked about how he liked the school. I spent most of my time talking to E.J. Banks, Theo Riddick, and Zach Martin."

One issue that many would think hurt Notre Dame in recruiting was their 2007 season record. Bullard said of the down year, "I never really questioned the future because I knew everything would take care of itself." He added, "I never was concerned about their future as far as the winning program because they are a winning program and they've always won, so one bad season didn't really change my mind about them."

The Irish have also shown some interest in Bullard's teammate, Thad McHaney. When asked if there was more to that interest Bullard said, "It has stayed the same and I have talked to him about it a little bit. He and I are really focusing on the season right now." There will be at least one more visit to South Bend for Bullard. He explained, "I am definitely going up for another game I just don't know which one yet. I am also going up for the banquet in December." Bullard spoke about fellow Tennessean Golden Tate, "I've talked to him before and he talked about the advantages of Notre Dame. I didn't get a chance to talk to him before the game of course." Even though he didn't get to talk to him he was impressed with his big performance on Saturday.

Bullard did not play in week three due to a slight injury with a pinched nerve. He commented, "I should be back full speed and ready to play this week. It was a precaution type thing. I was injured in practice a week before and I continued to play. I had a stinger in my shoulder and pinched nerve and the doctor said I needed to rest that week, so that's what I did."

His team however improved to 3-1 with a victory over Smyrna (Tenn.). Bullard said of his team's performance, "We did well. We moved the ball well on offense and played tough defense. We hit them in the mouth and responded when we were backed into a corner and played well." Next week provides a region challenge for the Eagles of Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy. Bullard said, "We play a really good Chattanooga-Baylor. They are better than they have been. It is a really big game."
