Top Performers For 2009

The state of Tennessee has been loaded with talent for the class of 2009 with a few four and five star prospects. Learn more about some of the top performers in the state that are flying under the radar.

One of the best players in the class of 2009 is Wesley Tate, 6-2, 205 pound running back from Hendersonville-Pope John Paul II High School. The 2008 season has shown why the younger brother of Notre Dame standout wide receiver, Golden Tate, has been receiving increased attention. Tate has 1028 yards on 166 carries and has found the endzone eleven times. The star running back is receiving a lot of interest from programs like Air Force, Ole Miss, Stanford, Tennessee, Western Kentucky, and Vanderbilt. The combination of power, size, and speed make Tate one of the best backs in the state.

The 2008 season has been a big year for Nashville-Christ Presbyterian Academy tight end/wide receiver Zaccheus Mason, 6-6, 230 pounds. Mason has hauled in 331 yards and five touchdowns. Fans have been able to watch the development of Mason through the combination of his athleticism and size. He has been receiving interest from schools like Western Kentucky, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, and Middle Tennessee.

Another top prospect on the rise is Nashville-Father Ryan tight end Mark Mulloy, 6-3, 240 pounds. Mulloy has 169 yards on 15 catches in just four ball games. He has been receiving interest from schools like Miami (OH), Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, and Tennessee.

Another top player in Tennessee that is beginning to turn some heads is Knoxville-Powell quarterback Kier Houston, 6-1, 180 pounds. Houston has led his team with 766 yards passing and six touchdowns. He has also shown his ability to make plays on the ground in 2008 by rushing for 325 yards and three touchdowns.

The fans of Knoxville-Christian Academy of Knoxville have kept a close watch on two top prospects including running back Keenan Kolinsky, 6-1, 212 pounds and quarterback Michael Fromke, 6-3, 185 pounds. Kolinsky, who currently holds an offer from Air Force and is receiving interest from Alabama, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee, has rushed for 397 yards in 2008. Meanwhile his Knoxville-Christian Academy Warriors teammate quarterback Michael Fromke has been lighting up the stats. Fromke has completed 112 passes for 1382 yards and ten touchdowns.
