The East squad should put up some impressive numbers this Saturday on the ground with South Pittsburg standout running back David Jones. In the 2008 season, Jones showed many in class 1A why he was receiving interest from division one schools. His combination of power and speed make him tough to take down.
The East will look for some big plays from dual threat quarterback Kier Houston from Knoxville-Powell. Houston has the ability to make a big play almost anytime he touches the football. In his senior season he was able to throw for 1823 yards and 18 touchdowns. Also at the quarterback position the East will be able to mix things up with Taylor Ogle from Gatlinburg-Pittman.
At the wide receiver spots the East will have to get some yardage from several of the top receivers in the area. Wide receiver Sam Thompson from Alcoa (Tenn.) could haul in a few passes for the East squad with his speed and agility. Other top receivers include Patrick Miller from Sevierville-Sevier County, who hauled in 890 yards and eight touchdowns. Other key contributors to the receiving group will include Courtland Styles from Knoxville-Fulton, Arcavius McMurray from Lebanon-Wilson Central, and Jermichael Williams from Knoxville-Fulton.
Check out PrepTennessee.com tomorrow as we will look at the linemen for both squads. The match up between these two teams upfront may prove to be the deciding factor. Fans will be able to check out these players and some of great athletes this Saturday in the 2nd Annual East vs. West Toyota All Star Classic. Kickoff for the game is at noon Eastern Standard Time. The game will be broadcast on television in Knoxville (WVLT-TV Channel 8), Nashville (WUXP MyTV30), Chattanooga (WFLI, The CW Chattanooga), Memphis (Comcast Cable), and Tri-Cities (WAPK My Tri-Cities)
