TCU On Tap For Daniels

Scout.com caught up with La Grange (TX) running back D'vonte Daniels after a Week 10 game. For he and his team, there are no postseason games, so Daniels will take this time and explore his college recruiting options. He is gearing up for a visit this week.

D'vonte Daniels may not be suiting up for a playoff game this weekend, but he's still excited.

The La Grange running back will take his first official trip, as the 5'7, 193-pounder will head to TCU, one of four he is planning to take in the weeks to come.

"I've been looking forward to it," said Daniels, who led the Leopards in rushing. "TCU's shown a bit of interest and it's also going to be the first college football game I'll see in person."

Daniels hasn't received any offers as of yet, but the chances of that will increase as he will also make visits to Texas A&M-Kingsville, Northwestern State and Midwestern State.

A three-year starter for the Leopards, Daniels played a variety of positions, including defensive end, linebacker and safety. His versatility has made him desirable to several schools, resulting in his prospective suitors viewing him as an athlete.

"I'd like to play running back, but I'm open to playing on the other side of the ball if they want me to," he said. "If that's the case, I'd probably end up as a safety."

Daniels said he was clocked at 4.51 in the 40 at start of the season; a member of La Grange's powerlifting team, he advanced to state last spring, making him an ideal choice on either side of the ball.

He is open to going out of state, but Daniels said he'd like to stay close to home in order to allow his family to watch him play.

The Leopards failed to make the playoffs after reaching the state semifinals last year. A new coaching staff and a host of new starters made things daunting, but Daniels sees it as a stepping stone toward bigger things for the returning players.

"We had different schemes to learn, and while it didn't get us back to the playoffs this year, I know they'll be fine going into 2011," he said.
