FCS School On Top for Nance-Garrett?

Scout.com has an interview with La Porte defensive back Aaron Nance-Garrett. After a third-round playoff win over state-ranked Katy, Nance-Garrett talked about the 9-7 victory, his role on defense and lets us know what schools are currently recruiting him.

Is there any better feeling than knowing that a play you made – the final play – was the nail in the coffin to secure your team the win? Well, that is the case with La Porte defender Aaron Nance-Garrett

His interception in the final moment of the game was all, the Bulldogs needed to pull off a huge victory over the state's No. 1 team in Katy last Saturday.

"It's a great feeling. I can't even talk right now," Nance-Garrett said after the win.

In addition to making what may have been the most impressive play in his career, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound defender was in on several plays as the La Porte front guys kept the heat on a solid Katy team for the full 48 minutes.

As for the interception, Nance-Garrett had a choice on whether to play his man or the ball. And based on the results, he made the right call.

"I saw the quarterback scrambling and I didn't know if I should come up to make a play or stay in coverage," Nance-Garrett said of the fourth-down play for Katy, which ended the game. "I stayed and the ball ended up coming my way. I think overall I played a pretty good game. The coaches worked with us all week on what we needed to do so we were ready to play."

And while he is itching to help get he team to a state title game, he also would like to land on a Division I roster as well. So far, a school from the Southland Conference has been the most consistent, but he is not ruling any programs out.

"Right now, it's McNeese State. And really, that's it," Nance-Garrett said. "At one time I was hearing some from UTEP, but I haven't heard from those coaches in weeks."

One thing is for certain, with more games like this one, more good news should be coming his way in the near future. Likely just in time for Christmas.
