THEOLDCOACH was in Bridgeport Thursday evening for the scrimmage between Class 4A schools Springtown and Bridgeport.
We caught up with longtime HFC at Bridgeport High, Danny Henson whose Bulls are coming off an 8-4 season in 2015. Even more impressive considering in 2013 Bridgeport was 0-10.
”We had the worst luck I’ve ever had in 2013 with injuries, in a given week we’d have a dozen guys in street clothes on the sidelines. It was tough because we had to pull a lot of JV kids up to varsity who weren’t ready, but it paid off last year because those kids had plenty of experience.
Bridgeport also got a welcome addition to the team when WR Keenan Holdman came out for football, Holdman who transferred into Bridgeport as a sophomore had never played football before and picked things up quickly. “Keenan will be a factor, he’s still raw but getting better each day, he’s got a chance to be special,” said Henson.
That special tag might apply to the entire Bridgeport team as the returning experience from a playoff team in 2014 could materialize into a deep run in 2015.
