Week 6 Class 3A Insider

Snyder (3-2) at Shallowater (1-2): Snyder after struggling a year ago is off to a nice start under second year head coach James Polk. The Tigers rolled past Midland Greenwood 42-14, Snyder outscored the Rangers 21-0 in the second half to turn a close game into a rout. Snyder was nearly flawless in the win rolling up 500 yards of offense no turnovers and just four penalties on the night. Shallowater is off to a slow as the Mustangs fell to Idalou 36-32. Both teams will look to run the football and try to avoid third and long situations, Snyder’s got a little more balance and few more playmakers, keep an eye on WR Dralon Jackson who could make a big impact for the Tigers. Stepp’s Pick: Snyder by 8

Grandview (5-0, 1-0) at Comanche (2-3, 1-0): Grandview led by Baylor commit QB Zach Smith rolled past McGregor 69-41 as Smith threw for 269 yards and six touchdowns in the win. The Zebras high powered offense will look to make it six wins in a row to start the year against a solid Comanche squad who got off to a good start a week ago with a 28-10 win over Glen Rose. CHS has been solid on defense all year, but slowing down the Grandview offense will be a massive challenge. Comanche will try to utilize their ground game and slow the tempo, but Grandview just has too many playmakers. Stepp’s Pick: Grandview by 11

Rockdale (3-1) at Madisonville (1-3): Rockdale’s defense had no answer for the Caldwell offense last week in a disappointing 57-37 defeat. Despite putting up some big numbers Rockdale allowed nearly 600 yards of offense and that proved to be their undoing in the defeat. The positive is Rockdale comes into this week’s matchup with Class 4A Madisonville as a heavy favorite. The Mustangs are off to a slow start and that continued last week in their 49-40 loss to Crockett. Expect Rockdale to roll in this one. Stepp’s Pick: Rockdale by 24

Cisco (3-1, 1-0) at Henrietta (4-0, 1-0): Powerful Cisco rolled to an easy win in their district opener dispatching Holliday 49-7 as RB Taylor Massey ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns and also returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown. The Loboes defense was outstanding as well allowing just 130 yards of offense. The task will be much tougher this week as they travel to undefeated Henrietta. HHS took care of Nocona 42-21 a week ago as QB Riley Watson had a hand in five touchdowns, three through the air and two on the ground. He accounted for 276 yards of offense. Knocking off a state power like Cisco would be a massive win and Henrietta keeps it close, but Cisco’s been in these games multiple times, they simply know how to win them. Loboes make the plays late. Stepp’s Pick: Cisco by 9

Newton (1-3) at West Orange-Stark (4-1): Don’t let Newton’s 1-3 record fool you, this is still a state title contender. The Eagles play one of the state’s toughest schedules, featuring almost entirely 4A opponents. That trend continues this week as West Orange-Stark is next up. Last week Newton was upset by Orangefield 24-21, the Eagles must get Gabe Foster going on offense. But keep an eye on Louisiana-Lafayette commit LB Tanner Holmes who is one of the top defenders in Southeast Texas. WOS had won four in a row to start the year, but they ran into a buzzsaw last week in Class 5A Richmond Foster in a 42-14 loss. Don’t let the score fool you, Foster is one of the state’s top 5A teams and they simply overwhelmed WOS with depth, we could see a similar result this week just with West Orange-Stark being the team to wear the opponent down. Stepp’s Pick: West Orange-Stark by 14
