TheOldCoach Week 9 Class 4A Insider

Snyder (5-3, 2-0) at Abilene Wylie (5-2, 1-0): Surprising Snyder jumped out to a 45-14 halftime lead on Stephenville, but the Tigers had to hang on late to stave off a furious rally in a 45-42 win. QB Logan Tate had a huge night for an explosive Snyder offense that showed signs of being really good this summer in 7 on 7 play. They’ll have their biggest test of the year this week against an Abilene Wylie defense that held a really good Brownwood offense to just three points in a 7-3 win. Wylie has had Snyder’s number recently and that won’t change this week, SHS keeps it competitive but Wylie’s depth wears the Tigers down. Stepp’s Pick: Abilene Wylie by 14

Paris (4-3, 0-2) at Pittsburg (6-1, 1-1): Paris three losses have come to three teams ranked in the top 15 in the state, but can the Wildcats finally get a marquee win? PHS will have another shot this week against 6-1 Pittsburg, last week Paris fell to Princeton 49-42. QB Demonquez Allen did have another big night accounting for 367 yards and five touchdowns for Paris in the losing effort.

Bullard (5-2, 2-0) at Gilmer (7-0, 2-0): Bullard will have a chance to show they are for real this week as the Panthers look to take down the monster that is Gilmer, who has won 23 games in a row. BHS knocked off Nevada Community 38-19 last week but the task is much larger this week as Gilmer is rolling. Gilmer rolled past Canton 45-19 a week ago as QB Zac Spears threw for 230 yards and a touchdown while versatile Demarco Boyd had a rushing and receiving score along with another strong defensive effort. Bullard keeps this close for a half, but Gilmer’s too talented and they just have too much big experience. Stepp’s Pick: Gilmer by 21

Giddings (7-0, 1-0) at LaGrange (6-2, 1-1): Many thought LaGrange would be the team to beat in Central Texas in 4A Division II, but instead the Leopards are scuffling having lost two of their last three games including a heart breaking 37-35 loss to Caldwell, despite J.K. Dobbins rushing for four touchdowns and passing for another. They’ll get another big test this week against unbeaten Giddings who is playing tremendous football at the moment, the Buffaloes blasted Salado 62-6 last week but this is by far their biggest test of the season. We’ll find out if Giddings is a contender in Region III this week, I think the Buffaloes keep it competitive as it is a rivalry game, but LaGrange will be anxious and playing with a purpose. Stepp’s Pick: LaGrange by 3

Cuero (3-4, 1-0) at Sinton (7-0, 2-0): Considered by far the toughest district in Region IV, 15-4A Division II will once again feature plenty of late season fireworks. Sinton has had Cuero’s number recently beating the Gobblers in three straight games including the playoffs two straight years. Cuero’s had a week to prepare and they are hoping their young but talented running back duo can carry the load. Sinton avenged a regular season loss in overtime to Yoakum a year ago, with their own overtime win this year 27-21. The Pirates hadn’t been tested all year and they proved they are more than capable of winning the close games. That will be the case this week as expect Cuero to throw everything at the Pirates who are back to back state semi-finalists. Stepp’s Pick: Sinton by 2
