LUBBOCK- It was quick and it was decisive, the Seagraves Eagles (10-1) wasted little time in eliminating any doubt for an overmatched Lockney (5-6) squad in a 56-22 win. RB Corey Kyle, who is up for player of the year consideration for Class 2A rushed for three touchdowns and intercepted Lockney’s trick play on the first play from scrimmage, two plays later he scored from 19 yards out and the rout was on for Seagraves.
The Eagles utterly dominated the first half jumping out to a 48-0 lead as along with Kyle sophomore QB Joseph Guerrero had three rushing scores in the first half. Lockney didn’t pick up a first down until late in the second quarter and by the time the clock hit zero for the second quarter the result wasn’t in doubt.
Kyle hasn’t put up the massive numbers that he did a year ago, but that’s by design as Seagraves has slowly worked the sophomore QB Guerrero into the game to try and develop more balance for a potential state title run.
Lockney continued to play had throughout scoring 22 second half points after falling behind 56-0 in the third quarter with a running clock. Seagraves ran for 353 yards on the night, with the vast majority of that coming in the first half.
Seagraves will take on Wheeler in the area playoffs next Friday night at Amarillo River Road High School.
