THEOLDCOACH CLASS 3A STATE SEMI-FINAL INSIDER
Brock (14-0) vs. Mineola (14-0) Friday 7:30pm Gopher-Warrior Bowl, Grand Prairie
Cameron Yoe (13-1) vs. Mathis (12-2) Friday 7:30pm DKR Memorial Stadium, Austin
It’s a battle of unbeatens as new kid on the block Brock, who is in just their second year of existence playing varsity football takes on Mineola who is the defending state runner up. Both teams have been dominant in their playoff runs, but no one’s been quite as dominating as Brock who has played basically one close game all year. Mineola is a little more battle tested and they have the bigger names with QB Jeremiah Crawford and Texas A&M commits Riley Anderson and Austin Anderson up front, but this Brock team has the makings of a real powerhouse this year and for years to come. Cameron Yoe, three time defending champion had to scratch and claw just to get out of their region as they played three incredibly tough games in a row. How will they respond this week against a Mathis squad that they are heavily favorites against? Mathis was a surprise winner out of Region IV, but the Pirates will be no match for the depth and speed of the Yoeman.

Idalou (13-0) vs. Waskom (14-0) Friday 7:30pm Ram Stadium, Mineral Wells
Franklin (14-0) vs. East Bernard (12-2) Friday 7:30pm Berry Center, Cypress
It’s a classic battle of speed vs. power as unbeaten Idalou and Waskom clash. Both teams rely heavily on the running game but do it in different ways, Idalou lines up in the I formation and tries to simply mash you into dust. Waskom and their difficult to defend flexbone offense tries to use their speed to get to the edge and make big plays. Waskom’s Chan Amie makes the difference in this really even matchup, Amie will make a couple of plays that no one else can make to lead Waskom back to the title game. Unbeaten Franklin rolled past Crockett a week ago, now the Lions face another big test in red hot East Bernard. EBHS has won twelve in a row since dropping their first two games of the season. East Bernard won last week over district rival Boling, but that game was closer than most anticipated. Franklin’s been the most dominant team in 3A Division II all year and that trend continues this week.
