CLASS 6A DIVISION I

Austin Westlake (14-1) vs. Galena Park North Shore (12-3) Saturday 4:00pm NRG Stadium, Houston

Austin Westlake did something hadn’t been done since the middle of the 2012 as that was beat Allen, the Chaps led by an incredible defensive effort ended Allen’s 57 game winning streak with a 23-17 win. Westlake jumped out to a 23-0 lead behind three touchdown passes from Sam Ellinger and held on late as Allen tried a late rally. They’ll take on a North Shore squad that’s as gritty as they come, they also won their semi-final game 23-17 as they held on late over Converse Judson. The Mustangs defense led by LSU commit Eric Monroe totally shut Judson down and they got Monroe involved on offense as he had a 32 yard touchdown run. North Shore’s D likes to play man press with very little safety help, not sure they can utilize that strategy against a Todd Dodge coached offense this week.

CLASS 6A DIVISION II

Lake Travis (15-0) vs. Katy (15-0) Saturday 8:00pm NRG Stadium, Houston

The most anticipated big school matchup of the weekend pits the two best teams in the state in 2015, Katy with their incredible defense that has ten shutouts against Lake Travis who been incredibly resilient all year. Despite losing two key contributors late in the season, LTHS has rolled to a 15-0 mark after a dominant win over Mansfield last week. In the 49-21 win QB Charlie Brewer threw for 308 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for a touchdown. Katy had maybe the most dominating performance a week ago beating previously unbeaten Steele 38-0 in San Antonio. That defense led by Collin Wilder, whose playing in his 64th and final varsity game this weekend, Paddy Fischer and JoVanni Stewart has clearly been the best unit in the state all year and the ground attack led by Kyle Porter has been really good as well. Katy’s throwing the ball better and with this game being at NRG Stadium, the Tigers will have a huge crowd and edge.

Stepp’s Pick: Katy by 14
