THEOLDCOACH CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP INSIDER

CLASS 3A DIVISION I

Brock (15-0) vs. Cameron Yoe (14-1) Thursday 5:00pm NRG Stadium, Houston

It’s a battle of new power against old guard as newcomer Brock, in just their second season of varsity football tangles with three time defending state champion Cameron Yoe. Brock took on Mineola last week in a battle of unbeatens and the Eagles showed just how elite they are dominating the line of scrimmage in a 38-22 win. RB Leddy French led the way for Brock with 173 yards rushing and a touchdown along with throwing a 55 yard touchdown pass. The task for Brock’s 10-1 special defense this week is great as they tangle with the explosive Yoe offense led by RB Traion Smith. Last week Yoe rolled past Mathis 40-14 as Smith ran for 175 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way, while Yoe’s defense stuffed the Mathis Slot-T offense. Yoe’s won 22 straight playoff games, can they make it 23 in a row and an amazing fourth straight state title?

Stepp’s Pick: Cameron Yoe by 8

CLASS 3A DIVISION II

Waskom (15-0) vs. Franklin (15-0) Thursday 8:00pm NRG Stadium, Houston

Waskom and Franklin hook up in the Thursday finale at NRG Stadium in what should be a fantastic game as both teams come in undefeated. Waskom led by RB/LB Chandrin Amie needed some late heroics to get past Idalou 28-24 last week, Amie had a pair of touchdown runs and along with LB Mike Reason helped the Waskom defense contain a potent Idalou ground game in the second half. Franklin trailed 7-0 late into the fourth quarter, but the Lions rallied scoring ten points on their last two drives including a game winning 39 yard field goal from Jacob Dorsett with 15 seconds left to lift FHS to a thrilling 10-7 win over East Bernard. Franklin’s defense led by all-everything LB Will Phillips will need to be on their A Game as they try and stop Waskom’s 30 game winning streak.

Stepp’s Pick: Waskom by 5
