THEOLDCOACH looks at the 2016 Mustangs from Andrews High School!

THEOLDCOACH continues our look at the 2016 season and today we head west to take a look at the Andrews Mustangs!

ENROLLMENT: 1,056 (1)

2015 RECORD: 10-2 4A Div. I Area Finalist

THE COACH: Ralph Mason

THE PLAYERS: Triston Williams (Sr., QB), Hayden Rochell (Sr., DL), Keegan Thompson (Sr., WR), Casey Buck (Jr., LB), Marcus Hernandez (Sr., DB), John Benavides (Sr., OL), Jovi Lopez (Sr., LB), Torey Kelly (Sr., RB), Jayton Miller (Sr., OL), Beau Narrell (Jr., DB)

THE WORD: The Mustangs return four starters on offense and eight on defense from last year’s 10-2 playoff team.  Quarterback Triston Williams (6’3, 180) is proving to be among the best quarterbacks in West Texas.  Williams returns from a 2015 season where he threw for 4,348 yards, 60 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.  His biggest target is back in receiver Keegan Thompson (5’9, 165) who hauled in 971 yards and 14 touchdowns in last year’s campaign.  Running back Torey Kelley (5’9, 175) was injured for most of the 2015 season, however, he racked up 1,182 all-purpose yards as a sophomore in 2014. Kelley will run behind an offensive line anchored by John Benavides (6’, 210) and Jayton Miller (5’11, 195), however, most of the offensive line will have to be rebuilt due to losing three starters to graduation. An experienced defense will be led by Hayden Rochell (6’4, 215) up front and linebacker Casey Buck (6’1, 180); the two combined for 146 tackles last year. Defensive backs Keegan Thompson and Marcus Hernandez (5’10, 160) will lead the secondary.  Andrews once again will be the heavy favorite in this district, but the Mustangs will be playoff tested with a tough non-district schedule.
