THE WORD: Mansfield is the newcomer to District 4-6A, but also enters among the favorites after advancing the state semifinals in 2015, their best season in school history. The Tigers move into the district with new head coach Daniel Maberry, although he's not unfamiliar to the program. Maberry takes over for Jeff Hulme, who left for the Waco Midway job, after serving as the Tigers' offensive coordinator under Hulme. That's good news for the Tigers who return two of their biggest playmakers in seniors Kennedy Brooks and Saiid Adebo. Brooks (3,522 rushing yards, 42 TDs) was a district MVP and all-state performer last season. Adebo (11 receiving TDs; 3 interceptions) plays both ways at receiver and defensive back, earning first-team all-district at both positions. Both are ranked four-star prospects by Scout.com. Senior lineman Caleb Thomas (40 tackles, 7 sacks) returns to lead the defense alongside Adebo as the only two returning defensive starters. Mansfield’s strength was up front where they had a senior oriented group up front, Coach Maberry’s biggest concern will be rebuilding that group so the Tigers can continue their brand of smash mouth football. Mansfield will be counting heavily on their two stars to lead this team, while the young guys find their footing.
