3A DII Region II Top 25 Teams
22. Paul Pewitt
24. Gilmer Harmony
Region II could be wide open for 2016. The top dog in the region may be Henrietta, a move over region I. Could we see Daingerfield return to form in 2016 after a pair of down seasons which aren't of the norm in that part of the state.
Henrietta is coming over from region I, and they are bringing plenty of their friends with them. Jacksboro, Holliday, City View and Millsap all are moving over from region II. Henrietta had a scoring advantage of 204 to 44 in those four games. At this point, Jacksboro gets the slight edge over Holliday for the #2 spot with a few more returning starters.
Gunter was 7-4 last season, but lost to some really good teams, including Pottsboro, Pilot Point, Howe and eventual champion Waskom. With that said, Gunter is used to winning and should be a contender for the district title. Leonard will have a good portion of their team returning and that could set them apart from the rest of the pack in the district. Overall, the district should show improvement as all the other teams have more returning than they lost.
There seems to be a lot of positive vibes around Hooks after their 9-2 record and tight bi-district loss to Arp last season. The Hornets could be considered the favorite, but the margin would be thin over Daingerfield. The Tigers have one of the most tradition rich programs in the state and will only be down for so long before they start winning again. Paul Pewitt played Hooks close last year and should contend in the district.
The final team ranked inside the top 25 is Gilmer Harmony. The Eagles ended up having a successful 2015 campaign, advancing to the area round of the playoffs. The majority of the other spots should be up for grabs as their are no clear favorites. Right now, we have Alba-Golden, Edgewood and Lone Oak making the playoffs. Winona could throw a wrench into all of that.
