TheOldCoach 3A DI Region I Outlook

THEOLDCOACH breaks down the race out in Region I in Class 3ADI!

3A DI Region I Top 25 Teams

1. Brock

8. Wall

12. Breckenridge

16. Shallowater

19. Muleshoe

Region I is going to host most of the familiar names from the past few years - including the defending 3A division I state champion Brock Eagles.  The Eagles have only been playing varsity football for a few years now, but appear to be poised to become a power year in and year out.  Can someone out West step up and deny the Eagles a trip back to state?

1-3A

One of the teams you would expect to compete for the regional title is the Shallowater Mustangs.  However, there is probably no team in 3A DI that has more questions than the Mustangs as a new coach will be stepping in while only five starters return from last year's state quarterfinal team.  Muleshoe has a state championship to their name (2008) and should compete with the Mustangs for the district crown.  Littlefield could also be a sleeper team within the region.

2-3A

2-3A is the home of the Wall Hawks.  The Hawks could earn the title of the most consistent team from the region over the past six years.  Wall fell to Brock last year in the third round (45-14), but was without their starting QB most of the game.  All of the other teams that make up the district were a combined 6-35 in 2015, so there is plenty of ground to be made up.

3-3A

Brady and Clyde were neck-in-neck last season.  In their district ball game a year ago, it was a one-point contest that went in the favor of Clyde.  We could see much of the same in 2016.  You also have Comanche, which is moving back in to region I after spending a few seasons in region III.  The Indians played both Clyde and Brady last season and lost those two games by a combined 21 points.

4-3A

Until someone proves other wise, this is going to be Brock's region to lose.  The Eagles have enough talent coming back and have plenty coming up in the system to defend their title.  If there is a team that could potentially knock them off, Breckenridge may have the best argument.  The Buckaroos gave Brock their closest game in the region last season, falling by only thee points in what ended up being the district championship.
