4A DII Region I Top 25 Teams
22. Iowa Park
Last season we had Krum, which was 5-5 when entering the playoffs, make a run all the way to the state quarterfinals before falling to Celina, 42-13. Will we see another unknown come out of nowhere for 2016, or will one of the pre-season favorites capture the regional crown?
In 2015, Perryton lost two district ball games to Iowa Park and Vernon, but both of those teams are now gone. With 17 starters coming back, the Rangers could be the top dog. Other teams making up the district have moved up from 3A the past two alignments. Brownfield had a solid 2015 campaign in 3A DI, going 8-2-1.
For most of the 2015 season, it appeared that is was going to be Sweetwater's region to lose. The Mustangs had dominated their way through the schedule, but was shocked by Krum in the third round, 31-0. Monahans was one team that played Sweetwater down to the wire and Coach Owens and his team have never missed the playoffs in his tenure. Greenwood, Pecos, Seminole, Fort Stockton and Lamesa round out the district.
Many are wondering if Krum will be able to build off of their improbable playoff run from 2015. If they can, they will be in the mix to win the region for the second straight year. That will not be easy as this district is probably the deepest in the region. Graham could easily be the team to beat. In terms of their record, 2015 was a down year, but the Steers played a lot of division one teams tough. Coming off an area round finish, Iowa Park could also be a contender.
Since moving up from 3A to 4A, Godley has taken a step back in terms of wins and playoff runs. The Wildcats, with six coming back on each side of the ball, are in a favorable district that could net them a championship. Glen Rose only spent two years in class 3A, and is moving back up into a district that could actually be more winnable.
