2A Dl Post vs 3A Dll Idalou
The Post Antelopes started off the season strong with wins over Abernathy (21-0) and Tahoka (74-28) while led by QB A.J. Escobedo and RB/DL A.J. Reed. But after a big loss to the Coleman Bluecats (37-7) this past week, they’re looking to get back on track Friday when they face the Idalou Wildcats. Building from a record that looks similar to the Lopes’ with two wins (Shallowater 17-14, Littlefield 38-21) and a loss to Seminole (0-29) week 2, Idalou won’t make it easy for Post to bounce back this week. With QB Jonathon Pacheco and WR/DB Mark Caballero leading the way, the Cats look to defend their home field Friday at 7:30 pm.
2A Dll Seagraves vs 2A Dll Wink
The Seagraves Eagles go into week 4 with a spotless record showing wins over Stanton (44-0), Floydada (28-14) and Sundown (8-6). Even with leaders like RB/LB Richard Longoria and TE/DE Quashus Williams, the Eagles might be in for some trouble as they attempt to keep that clean record this week. The Wink Wildcats are undefeated as well and seem to have had no trouble with Sundown (42-27), Stanton (38-8) or Plains (58-8). With QB Kenny Hrncir (2015 district newcomer of the year) back to lead the offense his sophomore season, the Cats have yet to come across competition. Wink will travel to Seagraves Friday for a 7:30 pm kickoff at Eagle Stadium.
3A Dll Canadian vs 2A Dl Stratford
One of the best rivalries in the Panhandle returns this week when the Canadian Wildcats face off against the Stratford Elks. The Elks are coming off of a bye week but have already been a dominant force this season with wins over River Road (29-6) and Guymon (56-10). Lead by RB Gage Brooks and OL/DE Parker Hanna, Stratford will see their biggest challenge yet come Friday. The Wildcats, with a tough early schedule, have taken two losses so far from Bushland (38-35) and Perryton (24-14). Led by experience from 2015 all-state WR Cameron Copley and 2015 all-state LB Holton Hufstedler, Canadian did beat River Road (44-7) by quite a few more points than Stratford did though. Losing the previous two matchups against the Wildcats, the Elks seek revenge Friday in Canadian at 7:30 pm.
3A Dll Cisco vs 3A Dl Clyde
Two of the most dominant 3A teams collide this week as the undefeated Clyde Bulldogs visit the Cisco Loboes. The Loboes, directed by QB Kase Gayle, would hold a clean record as well if it weren’t for just one point in a loss to Wall (18-19) week 2. Big wins over Breckenridge (24-3) and Comanche (62-20) put Cisco at 2-1 going into week 4. Clyde has held up so far against Brownfield (48-32), Eastland (20-15) and Ballinger (58-7) with QB Tanner Riley and WR/DB Brandon Berry leading the way. The Bulldogs travel to Cisco on Friday for kickoff at 7:30 pm.
3A Dl Muleshoe vs 3A Dll Childress
After competing against each other in the same district for eight consecutive years, the Muleshoe Mules and Childress Bobcats are set to meet up again this Friday. With experience from returners like WR Jason Florez and all-state DE Dagen Dunham, the Mules have dominated both Snyder (54-21) and Brownfield (45-22) so far. They go into week 4 with a 2-1 record though, their one loss from Levelland (31-56). The Bobcats, with a tough early schedule, are at 1-2 as they prepare for the Mules this week. Returning RB Bo Lott to carry the offense, Childress shutout Panhandle (42-0) but has taken a few losses from Wellington (21-26) and Iowa Park (24-37). In hopes to repeat last year’s matchup, the Mules road trip to Childress Friday for a 7:30 pm kickoff.
