Preview 5 Big Games in West Texas

2A Dl Post Antelopes vs 2A Dll Farwell Steers

The Post Antelopes make the trip to Farwell Friday to take on the Steers, but it will be no easy task. The Steers, undefeated going into week 6, have wins over Friona (35-13), Crosbyton (54-8), Olton (58-36) and Sundown (14-7) while relying on DB Romeo Reyes and RB Miguel Vasquez, but the Lopes hold a nice record as well. Led by QB A.J. Escobedo and RB A.J. Reed, Post is 4-1 on the season with their only loss from the Coleman Bluecats (Abernathy 21-0, Tahoka 74-28, Idalou 35-21, Slaton 49-0). Post and Farwell kick off in Farwell at 7:30 pm on Friday.

3A Dl Wall Hawks vs 4A Dll Iowa Park Hawks

It must just be a Hawk thing because Wall and Iowa Park seem to be the teams to fear this season. With experience from FB Tymber Carr and RB Thomas Halfmann, Wall has one loss on the board from 4A Dll Monahans (46-20) week 1, but they haven’t been stopped since (Cisco 19-18, Lago Vista 62-14, Eastland 28-14). Iowa Park lost a lot of experience after last year, but right now things are looking pretty good at a 5-0 record (Burkburnett 56-26, Gainesville 53-26, Childress 37-24, Mineral Wells 45-29 and Holliday 33-21). Returning offensive weapon RB Bowie Frank and protection up front, Iowa Park looks to keep a clean record Friday at 7:30 pm in Breckenridge.

4A Dll Graham Steers vs 4A Dl Big Spring Steers

Big Spring heads to Graham Friday looking to improve their 1-4 record while playing a rough pre-district schedule (Caprock 37-12 L, Sweetwater 60-20 L, Monahans 21-26 W, Canyon 42-14 L, Andrews 21-14 L). Returning experienced QB Dylan Cantu and RB Preston Alexander, Big Spring brought in someone new to hold the reigns this season in head coach Clint Finley. Playing a competitive early schedule as well, Graham holds a 2-3 record (Sanger 45-7 L, Brownwood 34-30 L, Hirschi 0-28 W, Burkburnett 19-68 W, Stephenville 55-28 L) on the season while leaning on experience from all state DE Jack Hays and LB Preston Langley. Graham invites Big Spring to town Friday for a 7:30 pm kickoff.

4A Dll Bushland Falcons vs 4A Dl Levelland Lobos

The Bushland Falcons show a win over 3A Dll Canadian (38-35) in week 1 but are still looking for their second (Caprock 49-42 L, Borger 7-7, Palo Duro 38-9 L, Pampa 49-14 L) as they prepare for the Levelland Lobos this week. The Lobos, propelled by one of the best signal callers in the state Nick Gerber, would hold a perfect record on the season if it weren’t for one point in a 77-76 loss to 4A Dl Andrews (Muleshoe 31-56, Shallowater 7-49, Brownfield 31-77, Snyder 55-2). Relying on experience from RB Bostyn Andrews and WR Gage Climer, the Falcons travel to Levelland Friday to take on the Lobos at 7:30 pm.

5A Canyon Eagles vs 5A Amarillo Sandies

Going into their second week of district play, the Canyon Eagles look to stay undefeated as they face the Amarillo Sandies Friday. With QB Gunnar Palacios leading the way, the Eagles started district off last week with a 35-13 win over Hereford. The Sandies, with experience from DE Ellis Newkirk and LB Ross Errington, hope to get back on track this week after a tough 38-30 loss to Caprock in their district opener. The Eagles and Sandies are set for a 7:30 pm kickoff Thursday at Dick Bivins Stadium.
