Preview 5 Big Games in West Texas

2A Dl Panhandle Panthers vs Stinnett West Texas Comanches

Opening district this week, the Panhandle Panthers prepare to host the Stinnett West Texas Comanches on Friday. The Comanches, led by LB Trey Griffin and QB Brandon Seaman, show just one loss on the season from Wellington (32-38) (Gruver 36-7, Claude 53-0, Booker 58-0, Spearman 24-22). Panhandle has two losses on their record, one from Childress (0-42) and their second from those same Wellington Rockets (7-22) (Tulia 47-2, Dimmitt 41-7, Wheeler 37-20). The Panthers lean on experience from QB Layton Lamberson and RB Colby Neeley. Panhandle and Stinnett kick off at Panther Stadium at 7:00 pm Friday.

3A Dll Childress Bobcats vs Canadian Wildcats

The Childress Bobcats road trip to Canadian this week as they open district against the Wildcats. The Bobcats have taken a few losses, one from Wellington (21-26) and the other from Iowa Park (24-37) (Panhandle 42-0, Muleshoe 45-28, Henrietta 37-0). With RB Bo Lott carrying the offense, their last win was a shutout over Henrietta as the underrated Bobcats head into district play. The Wildcats, led by WR Cameron Copley and LB Cade Throgmorton, have played a competitive early schedule with few losses as well, one from Bushland (35-38) and the other from Perryton (14-24) (River Road 44-7, Stratford 42-14, Vernon 37-17). Childress and Canadian open district Friday at Wildcat Stadium 7:00 pm.

4A Dll Perryton Rangers vs Bushland Falcons

The Perryton Rangers visit the Bushland Falcons Friday to kick district off. The Falcons had a big win over Canadian (38-35) week one. They have struggled with injuries since (Caprock 42-49 L, Borger 7-7 tie (game called due to weather), Palo Duro 8-38 L, Pampa 14-49 L), but judging from the way RB Bostyn Andrews and the Falcons played last week in their win over Levelland (54-48), they’re feeling a lot better. The Rangers took a loss from Dumas (32-36) week one, but they haven’t been stopped since. Holding a win over Canadian (24-14) as well, Perryton looks to experience from QB Hadley Allred and WR Dalton Rigdon at a 5-1 record (Weatherford 30-0, Pampa 56-29, Borger 49-13, Snyder 38-29). Perryton travels to Bushland Friday for a 7:00 pm kickoff.

6A Permian Panthers vs Midland Bulldogs

Going into their third week of district play, the Permian Panthers face the Midland Bulldogs on Friday. The Bulldogs, with QB Sena’j Davis directing the offense, are undefeated so far in district with wins over Midland Lee (47-14) and Frenship (21-14). Permian started district off with a loss from Frenship (28-40). But coming off their bye week, the young team, led by experience from SB Kobe Robinson, is looking to get back on track with a win. Permian and Midland are at Ratliff Friday at 7:30 pm.

5A Randall Raiders vs Canyon Eagles

One of the best West Texas rivalries continues Friday night as the Canyon Eagles invite the Randall Raiders to Kimbrough. The Raiders, leaning on WR Cody Gattis and LB Jayton Bennett, are 1-1 in district play with a win over Caprock (35-21) last week and a loss from Dumas (14-29). The Eagles, with a leader in dual threat QB Gunnar Palacios, had a win over Hereford (35-13) for their district opener, but are looking to bounce back this week after a loss from Amarillo (24-40). The Raiders took the rivalry last year (28-17), but Canyon is looking to defend home turf Friday at 7:00 pm.
