1A Dl Borden County Coyotes vs Ira Bulldogs
In a search of some competition this season, the Borden County Coyotes visit the Ira Bulldogs this week. I think they’ll find what they’re looking for because the Bulldogs, with experience in RB Ramiro Rios, still stand undefeated on the season as they go into Week 9, two of those being district wins over Hermleigh (48-0) and O’Donnell (55-8). They’ll face their biggest test yet though in Borden County because the Coyotes, with leaders in RB Corbin Sumners and QB Hunter Jones, started district off with a 66-0 shutout over Klondike and have just one loss on the season from Calvert (60-62) Week 3. Ira invites Borden County to town Friday for a 7:30 pm kickoff.
3A Dll Coleman Bluecats vs Eastland Mavericks
Coming off of a 42-21 loss from Cisco last week, the Coleman Bluecats are looking to bounce back this week as they visit the Eastland Mavericks. The Bluecats, with signal caller Bryson Hammonds, sit at a 1-1 district record holding a win over Bangs (22-6). The Mavericks, looking to RB Chris Martinez as their biggest offensive weapon, aren’t off to a bad start in district play with wins over Tolar (56-20) and Dublin (76-14) so far. It’s possible Coleman and Eastland still have a little bad blood because the last time these two teams met was in the 2014 Area round where the Mavs advanced over the Bluecats 38-28. We’ll see if the Bluecats get revenge Friday at Maverick Stadium 7:30 pm.
4A Dl Borger Bulldogs vs Levelland Lobos
The Levelland Lobos invite the Borger Bulldogs to town on Friday for their final home game of the season. The Lobos are going into Week 2 of district play with a win over Estacado (46-27) behind them and one of the best signal callers leading the way. QB Nick Gerber, holds 3,374 passing yards and 47 touchdowns going into Week 9 of the season; numbers that prove he stands out as one of the best in the state. The Bulldogs took a loss from Pampa (17-43) in their district opener last week. With a young team, they look to experience from LB Miguel Rangel and DE Kyler Brewer. Borger road trips to Levelland Friday for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
5A Dumas Demons vs Canyon Eagles
The undefeated Dumas Demons have yet to be slowed down this season as they go into Week 5 of district play against the Canyon Eagles. The Demons, looking to WR Alex Cantu, show district wins over Randall (29-14), Palo Duro (39-21), Plainview (28-21) and Caprock (34-24), but Canyon might be their biggest test yet. The Eagles, with QB Gunnar Palacios directing the offense, are 3-1 in district right now, their one loss being from Amarillo (24-40) (Hereford 35-13, Randall 34-15, Palo Duro 36-23). Dumas travels to Canyon on Friday to defend their clean record at 7:00 pm.
6A Tascosa Rebels vs Midland Bulldogs
The Midland Bulldogs host the Tascosa Rebels Friday night, and the interesting thing about these two is that both of their last games were one point wins over Permian (Midland 49-48, Tascosa 21-20). The Bulldogs had a bye this past week, but looking to RB Ricky Hubert, they show an undefeated district record so far (Midland Lee 47-14, Frenship 38-28, Permian 49-48). The Rebels, relying on WR Bert Morris, are 3-1 in district play, their one loss from Midland Lee (35-42) (Odessa 41-21, Frenship 34-27, Permian 21-20). Tascosa and Midland go head to head Friday in Midland at 7:30 pm.
