West Texas Insider Games of the Week

Preview 5 Big Games in West Texas

2A Dll Hamlin Pied Pipers vs Roscoe Plowboys

The Roscoe Plowboys host the Hamlin Pied Pipers for the district championship on Friday. Going into this week, both teams are undefeated in district play and haven’t seemed to come across much of a challenge up until this point. The Plowboys (Roby 52-8, Plains 43-13, Seagraves 39-23, Tahoka 52-6) are led by signal caller Brayden Beal and WR Jose Ortega while the Pied Pipers (Plains 55-0, Seagraves 17-0, Tahoka 60-6, Roby 55-0) look to QB Ayron Wagner and RB Avery Wagner. Hamlin must have quite something going on defense as well because the most any opponent has scored on them in a district game is one touchdown. Both in hopes of being crowned district champ, Hamlin and Roscoe take the field in Roscoe at 7:00 pm on Friday.

3A Dll Cisco Loboes vs Eastland Mavericks

As one of the very best West Texas rivalries, it doesn’t get any better than being at Maverick stadium this Friday night. The Loboes show just one loss on the season from Wall (19-18) Week 2 (District: Dublin 67-14, Coleman 42-21, Bangs 69-0, Tolar 34-26). They’ve been going strong since though with QB Kase Gayle at the reigns. The Mavericks have a few losses early in the season, one from Clyde (15-20) and the other from Wall (14-28) as well (District: Tolar 56-20, Dublin 76-14, Coleman 30-14, Bangs 63-2). But with RB Chris Martinez leading the way, they’ve been dominant the rest of the season. Cisco has taken this rivalry the past few years, but this game could go either way come Friday 7:30 pm at Maverick Stadium.

3A Dl Amarillo River Road Wildcats vs Littlefield Wildcats

The Littlefield Wildcats invite the River Road Wildcats to town on Friday to decide a district champion. Littlefield started the season off a little rocky but have clearly picked it up in district play holding an undefeated district record at this point. Looking to DE Taner McNabb and RB Chris Douglas, they’re coming off of a win over their rival and one of the tougher teams in the district, Muleshoe (Shallowater 37-13, Friona 48-20, Slaton 53-13, Muleshoe 41-35). River Road has a similar story. Led by experience in LB Kevin Conner and RB Deonte Woodard, they played a tough pre district schedule but have been able to keep a clean district record (Friona 21-14, Muleshoe 31-24, Shallowater 13-7, Slaton 35-6).  These Wildcats go head to head Friday night in Littlefield at 7:30 pm.

5A Dumas Demons vs Amarillo Sandies

The Dumas Demons travel to Amarillo Friday to take on the Sandies. The Demons were undefeated on the season until Canyon put a scratch on their record a few weeks ago, but they did bounce back last week with a big win over Hereford (Randall 29-13, Palo Duro 39-21, Plainview 28-21, Caprock, 34-24, Canyon 27-7). The Sandies took a loss from Caprock their first week of district play, but they’ve had a win streak going since (Caprock 38-30, Canyon 40-24, Hereford 28-10, Plainview 31-10, Randall 24-14, Palo Duro 38-7). Dumas makes the trip to Bivins on Friday to take on the Sandies at 7:30 pm.

5A Abilene Cooper Cougars vs Lubbock Coronado Mustangs

The Abilene Cooper Cougars road trip to Lubbock Thursday to take on the Coronado Mustangs. With QB Austin Smith and RB Devin Johnson leading the way, Abilene Cooper has a clean district record while going into the final week of the regular season (Lubbock Monterey 24-17, Lubbock Cooper 26-13, Lubbock High 69-0, Sang Angelo Lake View 69-13). Coronado took a loss from Lubbock Cooper a few weeks ago, that being the Mustangs’ very first loss of the season though (San Angelo Lake View 56-14, Lubbock Monterey 49-14, Lubbock Cooper 27-34, Lubbock High 69-14). The top two teams in the district meet up Thursday at Lowery Field in Lubbock at 7:00 pm.
