West Texas Insider Games of the Week

Preview 5 Big Games in West Texas

2A Dll Seagraves Eagles vs Bovina Mustangs

If you’re getting impatient for playoffs, the Seagraves Eagles and Bovina Mustangs meet up in Denver City Thursday night to begin post season play. The Eagles, propelled by RB Quashus Williams, started off the season strong but found themselves in a tough district finishing up third overall behind Hamlin and Roscoe. The Mustangs, led by QB David Lara, have come to impress this season as they go into this week with just one loss on their record from Farwell. Seagraves and Bovina kick off in Denver City Thursday at 7:30 pm.

2A Dl Stinnett West Texas Comanches vs New Deal Lions

The New Deal Lions and Stinnett West Texas Comanches face off Friday night at Kimbrough. Both teams coming from really competitive districts, it’s a shame that either has to lose this week. If it weren’t for just one point in a 21-20 district loss from rival Abernathy, the Lions would be undefeated on the season at this point. The Comanches finished up third in their district behind powerhouses Stratford and Panhandle. New Deal and Stinnett meet up in Canyon (Kimbrough Stadium) Friday night for a 7:30 pm kickoff.

5A Dll Abilene Cooper Cougars vs Dumas Demons

It’s a showdown at Jones Stadium in Lubbock Thursday night between the Abilene Cooper Cougars and the Dumas Demons. The Cougars, looking to RB Devin Johnson, had been rolling strong but took their only district loss last week from Lubbock Coronado making them District 4 Co-Champs. The Demons were undefeated on the season until Canyon knocked them off the throne a few weeks ago. Amarillo handed them their second loss last week as well, but with LB Derek Ditto and RB Stetson Rios, they look to bounce back this week. Abilene Cooper and Dumas kick off at Jones Stadium 7:30 pm Friday.

5A Dll Lubbock Cooper Pirates vs Canyon Eagles

The Lubbock Cooper Pirates invite the Canyon Eagles over on Friday for Bi-District. The Pirates, looking to QB Jarret Doege, took district losses from Lubbock Monterey and Abilene Cooper but are the only team to have beaten Lubbock Coronado so far this season. The Eagles, with a leader in QB Gunnar Palacios, show two district losses as well from Caprock and Amarillo. It’ll be a battle of two of the better QB’s in West Texas Friday night. Lubbock Cooper defends home turf at 7:00 pm.

5A Dl Lubbock Monterey Plainsmen vs Amarillo High Sandies

The Amarillo Sandies make the trip to Lubbock Friday night to take on the Monterey Plainsmen at Lowery Field. Amarillo is going into the playoffs with some momentum after being named the District 3 Champ last week, their only district loss coming from Caprock. The Plainsmen were undefeated on the season until they opened district play, taking a close loss from Abilene Cooper and another a few weeks later from Lubbock Coronado. Amarillo and Lubbock Monterey take Lowery Field in Lubbock on Friday at 7:00 pm.
