Preview 5 Big Games in West Texas

2A Dll Farwell Steers (Home) vs Wellington Skyrockets (Away)

The Farwell Steers and Wellington Skyrockets meet up in Amarillo on Friday to decide who takes another gold ball. Both teams dominated the regular season, Farwell even earning the District 3 title, and last week they both cruised by their Bi-District opponents. The Steers, looking to QB Heath Hadley, took Tahoka 59-6. The Rockets, with one of the largest players in the state OL/DL Trevor Roberson (6’11”, 300), beat Gruver 49-7. Farwell and Wellington meet at Bivins Stadium Friday for a 7:00 pm kickoff.

2A Dl Stratford Elks (Home) vs Post Antelopes (Away)

The District 2 and 4 Champs, Stratford Elks and Post Antelopes face off in Canyon on Friday. The Elks, led by RBs Gage Brooks and Fernando Jacquez, took the title of one of the tougher districts in the state including opponents Panhandle (27-13) and Stinnett (29-22). They’re coming off of a 53-13 Bi-District win over Hale Center, whereas the Antelopes took Anthony 33-7. The Lopes, looking to RB AJ Reed, fought through a tough district as well overcoming Forsan (28-21) and Stamford (22-14) for the District 4 title. Post and Stratford have an early 4:00 pm start on Friday at Kimbrough Stadium.

3A Dll Cisco Loboes (Home) vs Childress Bobcats (Away)

The Cisco Loboes and Childress Bobcats head to Wichita Falls Friday to decide an Area champ. The Loboes, directed by QB Kase Gayle, haven’t slowed down since their 18-19 loss from Wall Week 2. They go into this week with more momentum than ever with the District 4 title under their belt and a 49-12 Bi-District win over Alpine. They might have their toughest task since Wall though as prepare to face the Bobcats on Friday. The Bobcats, with RB Bo Lott carrying the offense, took a 17-18 loss from Canadian Week 1 of district play and then proceeded to beat every other district opponent by at least 49 points.  Last week they claimed the Bi-District title from Coahoma in a 58-6 win, but they’ll find competition in the Loboes as they search for the Area title. Cisco and Childress are at Veterans Field on Friday for a 7:00 pm kickoff.

3A Dl Wall Hawks (Home) vs Clyde Bulldogs (Away)

The Wall Hawks and Clyde Bulldogs face off Friday in Brownwood. The Hawks, District 2 Champs, are coming off of a 47-18 Bi-District win over Shallowater while looking to FB Tymber Carr. The Bulldogs took a surprising 28-7 district loss from Comanche, but they’ve been scary since. Led by QB Tanner Riley, they earned their Bi-District title last week with a 42-6 win over Ponder. Both the Hawks and Bulldogs played a prominent Eastland team pre-district, Wall winning the match up 28-14 and Clyde taking it 20-15. Wall and Clyde meet up 7:30 pm Friday at Gordon Wood Stadium.

4A Dll Krum Bobcats (Home) vs Sweetwater Mustangs (Away)

The Krum Bobcats and Sweetwater Mustangs make the trip to Stephenville Friday for a 4A small school battle, both of these teams showing just one loss on the entire season. Krum, looking to RB Brandon Reeves, took the District 4 title with impressive wins over Iowa Park (56-54) and Graham (42-35), their one loss being from Sanger (6-14) early in the season. The Mustangs, led by RB Jacoby Hunt and LB Hunter Mobley, took their very first loss of the season just a few weeks ago from District 2 Champ Monahans but go into Area Round with a 48-21 Bi-District win over Dalhart. Krum and Sweetwater kick off at Memorial Stadium (Tarleton State University) at 7:00 pm Friday.
