2A Dll Albany Lions vs Iraan Braves
The Albany Lions and Iraan Braves meet up in Colorado City Friday. Competing in the State Finals the past two years and known for continuously making deep runs into playoffs, the Lions have dominated the 2016 season until this point as well. But for the first time since their one loss from 3A Dll Cisco (7-34) Week 5, they might be considered the underdog this week. The Braves are undefeated on the season showing impressive wins over teams such as 2A Dl Mason (24-21) and 3A Dll Sonora (37-27). The Lions, looking to RB Hunter Owen, beat Electra 40-23 last week to earn their Area title, and the Braves, powered by RB Daryel Lozoya, took Santo 47-6. Albany and Iraan kick off at Wolf Stadium in Colorado City Friday 7:00 pm.
3A Dll Childress Bobcats vs Sonora Broncos
The Childress Bobcats and Sonora Broncos road trip to Abilene this week. The Bobcats, with RB Bo Lott carrying the offense, are coming off of a close 28-21 Area win over Cisco last week. They show just a few losses early in the season from 2A Dll Wellington (21-26), 4A Dll Iowa Park (24-37), and a district loss from 3A Dll Canadian (17-18). If they overcome Sonora on Friday, they’ll get another shot at those Canadian Wildcats, but taking on the Broncos will be no easy task. Looking to QB Kaden Cordell, they beat Spearman 42-17 to earn their Area title last week and show just one loss on the entire season from 2A Dll Iraan (27-37) Week 6. Childress and Sonora meet at Wilford Moore Stadium (McMurry University) on Friday for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
4A Dll Monahans Loboes vs Seminole Indians
The Monahans Loboes and Seminole Indians rematch in Midland on Friday. Opening district against each other this season, the District 2 Champ Loboes defeated the Indians 27-19. The Loboes, powered by RB Ronin Williams, show losses early in the season from 5A Canyon (34-55), 4A Dl Big Spring (21-26) and 4A Dl Andrews (40-43). They rolled through district untouched though (even putting a loss on Sweetwater’s perfect record 19-16) and beat Graham 42-21 to earn their Area title last week. The Indians had a few bumps in district play with losses from Greenwood (50-52) and Sweetwater (22-39) (and Monahans). They have all the momentum possible right now though after defeating Perryton 33-7 in Bi-District and Iowa Park 46-27 in Area last week. Monahans and Seminole are at Grande Stadium in Midland on Friday at 7:00 pm.
4A Dl Abilene Wylie Bulldogs vs Argyle Eagles
The Wylie Bulldogs and Argyle Eagles meet in Mineral Wells on Friday. A matchup scheduled to have happened pre-district but didn’t due to weather conditions, these two find each other in the Regional Semifinals. And there might still be a little bit of bad blood left from last year when Argyle defeated Wylie 24-17 in the State Semifinals. The Bulldogs, led by FB Cameron Hanna, show just one loss on the entire season from 5A Lubbock Monterey and are coming off of a 48-17 Area win over Pampa. The Eagles, directed by QB Dane Ledford, are undefeated on the season and took Lubbock Estacado last week 63-7. Wylie and Argyle kick off at Ram Stadium on Friday at 7:30 pm.
4A Dl Andrews Mustangs vs Levelland Lobos
The Andrews Mustangs and Levelland Lobos rematch in Lubbock on Friday. The Lobos, directed by one of the best signal callers in the state, Nick Gerber, are in search of revenge this week after taking a 77-76 loss from the Mustangs Week 3. Levelland came into the post season with a district title for show and paved their way to the Regional Semis with a Bi-District win over Mountain View (63-12) and an Area win over Decatur (82-73). The Mustangs, looking to QB Triston Williams, went into the playoffs with a district title as well and earned their place in the Regional Semis with a Bi-District win over Borger (73-28) and an Area win over Brownwood (59-38). Two of the most potent offenses, it might be another track meet as these two meet again at Lowery Field in Lubbock on Friday 7:30 pm.
