In thirty-three years at Calallen, head football coach Phil Danaher has more wins than any coach in Texas high school football history, but has never won a state title. Danaher’s Wildcats have reached the state championship game only one other time losing to Lewisville Hebron 28-0 in 2005.

Danaher, already a member of the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, passed G.A. Moore during this season as the winningest coach and enters the game with 432 victories.

The Aledo Bearcats are seeking their third title in four years, sixth in the past eight years and seventh overall crown. The Bearcat seniors have a 59-3 record in the past four years but last year’s team was knocked out in the state semifinals in a loss to Mansfield Lake Ridge. 

Aledo senior quarterback Dillon Davis leads the Bearcats offense that is averaging 57.3 points with 302 rushing yards and 252 passing yards per game. Davis has thrown for 3,695 yards completing 186 passes with 45 touchdowns. Senior receivers Logan Bridges and Preston Jefferis have combined for 2,006 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Senior offensive lineman Chuck Filiaga and Wes Harris, spearhead a Bearcat line that has three running backs are over or near 1,000 yards rushing. Senior Michael Jordan has rushed for 1,099 yards with 17 touchdowns, junior Donnie Evans has 950 yards with 22 rushing touchdowns and freshman Jase McClellan has rushed for 1,430 yards.

The Bearcats’ defense has surrendered an average of 18 points and has forced 38 turnovers this season.

Calallen’s offense is averaging 313 yards rushing and 58 yards passing per game while operating out of the wing-T offense. Senior quarterback Gaige Lamb leads the team with 23 rushing touchdowns while rushing for 1,316 yards. Sophomore running back Alec Brown’s is the Wildcats’ top ground gainer with 1,596 yards and19 touchdowns. The Wildcats score an average of just over 38 points.
