Larry Neumann retires after 24 years in Nederland

The Nederland Independent School District announced head football coach Larry Neumann has made the decision to retire. Neumann will officially end his career as the Bulldog’s head football coach and district’s athletic director effective Jan. 31.

Neumann has spent 24 seasons on the Bulldogs’ sideline as the head football coach after spending more than a decade at Port Arthur’s Thomas Jefferson High as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator.

Neumann led the Bulldogs to at least a share of a district championship for five years in a row (2011-15) and won a total of eight district titles. His overall record at Nederland was 186-93-1.

After serving 24 years working devotedly as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for Nederland Independent School District, Larry Neumann has tended his letter of retirement effective January 31, 2017.

Larry Neumann has achieved an unprecedented level of success as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for Nederland ISD. Beyond leading 22 of the 24 football seasons to the playoffs, each sport has grown and been successful under his leadership. Coach Neumann has left a positive, lasting impact on the lives of thousands of students and young men. He is a mentor, a role model, a teacher, and an outstanding example of leadership and humility.

Coach Neumann’s efforts both on and off the field, have helped create a tradition of excellence and generated an incredible amount of pride for the entire Nederland community. He has left a lasting legacy and he will be missed.

The District expresses its appreciation to Coach Neumann for his dedication and efforts while serving as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for this excellent school district and for the achievements and accomplishments of the District during Coach Neumann’s tenure. Coach Neumann has expressed his desire to spend more time with his family after devoting 43 years as an educator and coach.

Coach Neumann thanks the Board of Trustees, Superintendent and administration, staff, students, parents and community for their commitment and support of the District's programs during his tenure as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. The District extends its best wishes for Coach Neumann in his future endeavors.

The process to identify a replacement will begin immediately. It is extremely important to carry on the proud tradition of the Nederland Bulldogs and continue to build on the success created by Coach Neumann.
