Sealy Independent School District announced that they have hired Shane Mobley as the new athletic director and head football coach.
Mobley comes to Sealy from Sweetwater where over the past three seasons he led the Mustangs to a record of 38-4 including a 4A Division II state championship appearance in 2016 losing to West Orange-Stark 24-6.
Mobley coached the Mustangs for five years with a combined record of 46-16 and took them to the playoffs in three of those years. Mobley replaced former Sweetwater coach Craig Slaughter in 2012 and his first two teams finished with to back-to-back 4-6 records.
Mobley has been on the staff for two state football championship teams while an assistant coach at both Sonora and Prosper.
Mobley is a native of Big Lake and began his coaching career as an assistant at Winters staying three years. He then left for Sonora working for Jason Herring in 2000-2002 and then to Andrews for two seasons.
Mobley was an assistant in Sweetwater for four seasons under Kent Jackson from 2004 through 2007 before leaving in the spring of 2008 to be an assistant to Kent Scott at Prosper.
Prior to his first head coach stint in Sweetwater he spent two years at Class 5A Seguin as assistant head coach under Wayne Walker.
In a statement issued by the Sealy ISD both the Board President and Superintendent spoke highly of the hire of Mobley.
“We were impressed by the quality of applicants we received for this position, but Coach Mobley stood out from the very beginning,” said Sheryl Moore, Superintendent of Sealy ISD. “He exemplifies excellence, strong character, and high standards. We were looking for someone who could win, but more importantly, someone who will be a leader for us beyond the field with respect to student achievement and involvement in the community”.
Ryan Reichardt, President of the Sealy ISD Board of Trustees, said, “I know we made the right choice with Shane Mobley. We talked to a lot of good men who were great at certain aspects of their job, but Coach Mobley excels in all of the areas of leadership and success that are important to our district. He is everything we were hoping to find in a new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. I believe the community will be very pleased”.
Coach Mobley will assume his duties in Sealy beginning February 15th.
