Albany was clearly ahead of the pack in 2016, outscoring all other district opponents at 51.4 to 8.4 points per game.  The Lions, which won back-to-back state championships in 1960 and 1961, advanced to the third round before falling to Irann (33-14), the eventual representative for region I and state finalist.  Albany is losing a good nucleus of players, but has plenty of talent returning to remain as the favorites in this district.  Cross Plain and Miles, who were both in the postseason, should show improvement in 2017.
