McGuire leaves Cedar Hill after 14 years at the helm to join Matt Rhule’s staff at Baylor. McGuire took Cedar Hill from a dormant program that had never won a playoff game to three state championships - 2006, 2013, 2014 - and amassed a 141-42 record in 14 years as boss of the Longhorns. Former Cedar Hill DC and Arlington Seguin HC Lynn hired to replace McGuire.

Lehnhoff is promoted to the AD position in SCUCISD. Lehnhoff was the second coach in Steele history, and compiled a four-year record of 52-8. Steele DC Saenz promoted to HC.

Eaton earns promotion to assistant AD of CFISD. He was 36-30 in six years with the Golden Eagles, including a 10-3 campaign in 2015. Falls DC Brister promoted to HC.

Salinas, the only coach in Vela’s five-year history, leaves to take over at Weslaco. The Sabercats were 36-20 under Salinas, including a 12-1 campaign in 2015.

Watkins resigns after just one season at MST - formerly known as Sam Houston. The Tigers, who were repurposed from Sam Houston to MST (Math, Science and Technology) in 2010, have won just four games since then and seek their fifth head coach in as many seasons. Clancy leaves Strake after five seasons to take over at Klein Cain - Klein ISD’s fifth high school. During Clancy’s tenure, the Crusaders were 19-34, and reached the region semifinals during an 8-5 campaign in 2015.

Meadows, a 40-year coaching veteran with stops in Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma, has retired. He was 36-49 in eight years at Morton Ranch. Counter comes to Morton Ranch from 4A Stafford.
6A/Katy Tompkins Tony Tademy Todd McVey 2-8
Tademy, the only coach in Tompkins history, leaves after a 5-25 mark in three seasons. KISD moves assistant AD McVey to head up the Falcons. McVey has previous head coaching experience at McKinney and Harker Heights, and worked with Tademy at McKinney.

Fair resigns from Shoemaker after one season. Prior to coaching the Grey Wolves, Fair was an assistant at his alma mater Killeen and a pair of San Antonio schools - Brandeis and Reagan. KISD hires Beaumont Central HC Foreman to take the reigns at Shoemaker.

Smith resigns from KOHS after 21 years at the helm. He also coached at Oklahoma under Barry Switzer and at Baytown Lee prior to his two-decades long stint at Klein Oak. DC Glenn, a former Texas A&M and NFL player, promoted to HC. Glenn was HC at Houston Chavez for one season.
6A/Laredo LBJ Oki Villasenor Alfonso Calderon 1-9
Villasenor resigns from the United ISD school after nine seasons and a 30-61 record at the school. The Wolves reached the postseason in 2014 - their only one in the school’s 13-year history of varsity football. Calderon leaves his post as assistant AD of United ISD to take over at LBJ.

Miller leaves Lewisville after five years to take the DC job at Texarkana (Texas) High. The Fighting Farmers were 15-35 in five years under Miller and never made the playoffs.

Robinson retires after spending nearly three decades at Mesquite. A member of the Skeeters staff since 1989, Robinson took over the program in 2008 and posted a 40-56 record, which included a 7-6 region semifinal run in 2011. MISD hires SA Brandeis HC Fleener to take the reigns.
6A/Midland Craig Yenzer Tim Anuszkiewicz 9-3
Yenzer retires after 15 years at Midland High. He posted a 103-70 record with the Bulldogs, which included a trip to the state championship game in 2002. Anuszkiewicz promoted from DC to HC.
6A/Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Steve Marroquin Lupe Rodriguez 3-7
Marroquin, a PSJA alum, was 16-25 in four years at his alma mater. He guided the Bears to the playoffs in 2014. Rodriguez comes to PSJA from Mission Veterans Memorial, where he served as the OC.
6A/PSJA Southwest Jesus Reyes Mike Evans 4-6
The only coach in Southwest has ever known resigns after a 17-35 record in five years. Reyes led the Javelinas to the postseason in 2014 and 2015. Evans comes to Southwest from Brownsville Veterans Memorial, where he served as the DC.
6A/Round Rock Cedar Ridge Shawn Bell Sam Robinson 11-1
Bell guided Cedar Ridge to an 11-1 record in his only stint at the six-year-old school. Bell, a former Baylor quarterback, will return to his alma mater as a member of Matt Rhule’s staff. Prior to his year at Cedar Ridge, Bell was 44-27 at six seasons at Magnolia West. Robinson promoted from DC to HC.

Fleener leaves Brandeis after two seasons and a 14-9 record. The Broncos went to the playoffs both seasons under the Mesquite-bound Fleener. DC Branscom promoted to HC.

Salas leaves Holmes after four seasons to take over at Northside ISD’s 11th high school, Harlan, which opens in the fall. During his four-year tenure with the Huskies, Salas was 9-31. Morales leaves SA Highlands to take over at Holmes.
6A/San Antonio Madison John Campbell Blaine Pederson 4-7
Campbell leaves Madison after one season. Despite the losing record, the Mavericks still made the playoffs in Campbell’s only campaign there. SA Johnson DC Pederson hired to be Madison’s fourth coach in the last five seasons.
6A/San Antonio Reagan David Wetzel Lyndon Hamilton
Wetzel, who took Reagan to the postseason nine times in his 13-year tenure at the school that opened in 1999, leaves to join the staff at his college alma mater, Baylor. Wetzel earned a 114-41 record and took the Rattlers to the state quarterfinals five times during his tenure. He also had head coaching stints at Austin Hyde Park and Killeen. Hamilton was promoted from DC to take over for the Rattlers.

Parker leaves Spring after seven seasons and a 41-38 record to take over at Tomball Memorial. The Lions were 30-9 over the last three years under Parker’s lead. OC Miller promoted to HC.
6A/The Woodlands College Park Richard Carson Lonnie Madison 1-9
Carson, the only coach in College Park’s 11-year history, announced his retirement. The Cavaliers are 46-66 in their brief history, including a 9-2 campaign in 2007. Carson retires with a record of 110-80. Klein Collins DC Madison hired to take over at CP.
6A/Weatherford Weldon Nelms Billy Mathis 2-8
Nelms announces his retirement after an illustrious career and 248 career wins. Nelms led Wimberley to state championships in 2005 and 2011. Aledo DC Mathis hired to take over at WHS.
6A/Weslaco Tony Villarreal Michael Salinas 5-5
Villarreal reassigned after 13 years at the helm in Weslaco. The Panthers were 92-57 during this tenure, which included back-to-back 10-3 campaigns in 2006 and 2007. Villarreal has an all-time record of 197-104-4, and has coached at Port Isabel, PSJA North and Brownsville Hanna prior to his stint at Weslaco. WISD hires Edinburg Vela HC Salinas to the same position at WHS.
6A/Wofforth Frenship Brad Davis Jay Northcutt 5-6
Davis leaves Frenship after 11 seasons and a 102-34 record at the helm that included a semifinal appearance in 2006 and quarterfinal appearances in 2007, 2008 and 2012. Frenship hires Sachse OC Northcutt to take over.

He also helped open Cypress Falls in 1992, where he spent the first 11 seasons as an assistant to Wayne Hooks before taking the head coaching job in 2003. Consol alum and former Navasota coach Fedora takes over. Fedora led Navasota to state championships in 2012 and 2014.

After an area round playoff appearance in 2012, Ramsey could not duplicate similar success in his last four seasons in Tomball. He amassed a 19-33 record in five years with the Cougars. Flanigan comes over from Beaumont West Brook.

Vanover, who started the Memorial program in 2012, is out after five seasons. He compiled a 22-29 record, which included a 6-5 campaign in 2013 - the Wildcats’ only playoff season so far. Memorial hires Parker from Spring.

Willis retired after this season. He wa 1-39 in four years at University, which included losses for the Trojans in their last 36 contests. UHS boys basketball coach Smith, also a former QB at the school, hired to head up the football program.

Day reassigned at Borger after five seasons and a 14-40 record overall. The Bulldogs made the playoffs each season, including this year’s 1-8 campaign, despite having a losing record each year. Levelland DC Coker hired to head up Borger.

Wilson leaves after seven seasons to take over at Bridgeport. The Panthers were 38-36 under Wilson, including an 8-5 campaign in 2011.

Ferguson resigned in midseason in the midst of a domestic violence arrest. Shelbyville was 26-12 in 3 ½ seasons under Ferguson, which included a 12-1 campaign in 2015 and a 1-4 record in the first five games of the 2016 season. Shelbyville ISD promoted assistant Charles Tindol to the head coach position on Dec. 12. Tindol, who finished the season as the interim head coach, also coached at Italy in 2013 and 2014.
