Jeff Berry Moves From Corsicana To Ennis Assistant

Jeff Berry has left Corsicana after a successful stint guiding the Tigers to join Sam Harrell's staff at rival Ennis. Berry's departure is just one of a number of recent coaching changes around the state.

Berry became Corsicana coach in 2000 after serving as an assistant at the school to Tom Wilson for 10 years. Berry's first two Tiger teams went 9-4. After finishing 5-6 in 2002, the program reached the Division I Region II quarterfinals in 2003 before falling to Texarkana Texas High. Overall, Berry's ledger read 33-16, including 17-3 in district and 5-4 in the playoffs.

Steve Burrow, who led Waco Connally to a 10-2 record last year and a piece of the District 17-3A championship after going 2-8 in 2002, has departed to take over the Crockett program. Burrow leaves a school for which he played in the early 1980s. Overall, he finished 16-26 at Connally.

Big Sandy Harmony has a new coach in Jerry Blankenship, who spent the past six years as defensive coordinator at Longview Spring Hill. Blankenship's assistant stops have also included Longview, Harleton, Longview Pine Tree and Spring Hill, as well as a coaching stint at Ore City. Blankenship replaces Tim Russell, who moved on to the Pine Tree position.

Class 2A San Saba has a new mentor as well in Joel Johnson, who served the previous four years as offensive coordinator at Garland Naaman Forest. Under his guidance, Naaman Forest averaged a district-best 356.4 yards and 28.5 points per game last season.

Stinnett West Texas promoted David Wright from defensive coordinator to head coach. Last year was Wright's first at West Texas, who had been an assistant at Liberal (KN), Ponca City (OK) and Ardmore (OK). He was also head coach from 1996-99 at Texhoma (OK), compiling a 25-20 mark with three playoff teams and one district title.

El Paso Socorro is seeking a new coach following the resignation of Glen Myers, who coached the Bulldogs for just one season with a 3-9 mark.
