Lake Highlands Fixture Gayden Goes To Abilene

Jerry Gayden, a name associated for more than three decades at Richardson Lake Highlands, has decided to vacate the school's athletic director and football post to become the athletic director for the Abilene school district. Gayden's is the only name that is being presented at a June 12 school board meeting in Abilene.

Gayden's tenure at Lake Highlands goes back to 1972 when he started as a freshman coach for the Wildcats. He would move on to the varsity staff in 1980 before becoming head coach in 1995. Gayden compiled an 80-52-1 mark, including three Class 5A state semifinal appearances over four seasons in the latter part of the 1990s.

His last team finished 8-4 and moved to the area round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs.
