Mills Promoted To Head Coach At Whitney

Whitney High School promoted Andy Mills to be the school's new head football coach after former coach Paul Hurst resigned to become a teach in San Angelo. The move signaled that the program wanted to keep the hire in-house to build on some new-found momentum.

Whitney had fallen on tough times prior to Hurst's arrival. The team had won only three games over six years, but in Hurst's two years the program went 4-6 and followed that with a 6-5 record in 2005, good enough for the Wildcats' first trip to the playoffs since 1983. Whitney was district co-champion last year.

Mills graduated from Whitney in 1988 and was an assistant last year.
